Island School Parent Teacher Association (ISPTA)

Island School Parent Teacher Association (ISPTA) supports the Island School community through events, initiatives, and resources that enrich students' educational experiences and promote the well-being of the whole school community, including students, parents, and staff. Working in partnership with the school, we strive to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and has a strong sense of belonging.
Building Community by Supporting Events
Led by a dedicated team of parent volunteers, ISPTA's primary role is to strengthen and connect the Island School community. We support various social events with our biggest event, the annual Winter Fair. The Winter Fair brings together the whole school community for an evening of games, shopping, international food cuisines, live performances and arts. The international food court organised by our parent volunteers brings in delicacies that showcase the cultural diversity of the school community.
We also support the school's cultural events of Diwali, Christmas and Lunar New Year through funding and volunteer efforts, to bring the community together to celebrate and appreciate the rich cultural diversity of Island School. We also participate in Friday Coffee Morning ZOOM webinars with school leaders to facilitate Q & A on topics relevant to IS education and school life for parents.
We also support whole-school community events such as House Nights and Sports Awards Ceremony; celebratory events of Year 11 and Year 13 Dinner Dances; and Year 13 Graduation Reception. We also support educational experiences with Book Week prizes and recent sponsorships for the Art department. These projects are funded through ISPTA membership fees of HK$200 per family and fundraising events, including the Winter Fair.
ISPTA is also a longstanding supporter of the Island School Trust's Nicola & Kenneth (N&K) Bursary, which honour the memory of two Island School students. The bursary provides financial support to motivated and committed secondary students from local schools who face financial challenges. Since 2019, ISPTA has contributed to N&K fundraising through Winter Fair silent auctions and market sales. These bursaries are disbursed to the students in a personalised ceremony held at Island School in June.
Alongside organising events and supporting student initiatives, ISPTA promotes sustainability through the ISPTA Secondhand Shop. The shop collects and recycles gently used school uniforms and textbooks. All proceeds from these sales are reinvested in student-led initiatives and community events.
We support parents in the set-up of year-level WhatsApp groups to stay connected with each other and share the Island School life. We also organise WhatsApp groups for bus and commute discussions and Korean, Japanese and Indian families.
